pretty sure one of the official announcements say that Linkle is more of a relative of link rather than a gb'ed version. I may be wrong, it's all up to speculation.

Linkle was originally intended for the original game, as Link's sister, much like Aryll. She doesn't appear to be related in this game, but she's not genderbent.
