It's possible that when you're dreaming, there is now way you can scream or talk... and you're just following the dreams rules like a puppet... It's what happened here.

In this comix, Tails iss more experienced in lucid dreams than Sonic and is totally aware that he was dreaming, so that's why he was perfectly conscious with Vanilla.
Sonic is not used to control his own dreams and... this is what happened.
