Not sure why so many people are saying he shouldn't have joined fakku. I'm not a real fan of some of fakku's practices either, and yeah, it would be nice if he could always do his own thing, and I hope there isn't a list of stuff he can't work on any more. And yes, his release rate will probably slow down, of course it will, he has a full-time job. However, that being said, he is one of the best translators in the scene, and he will still be doing his own releases. But you can't eat good will from consumers of chinese cartoon porn, are you guys offering to pay for all his living expenses? That option was there, and his patreon gets $40 a month, from 8 people. This honestly works out great for him, a job doing what he is great at, and something I at least presume he enjoys, and, on a rather more selfish note for the rest of us, he's still going to be putting out his own releases.

I don't think many people begrudge 5am for wanting to get some money out of it, but scanslating has always been intended more of a hobby and fan work, not a profitable business. I have mixed feelings about people taking commissions but at their rates, I sort of doubt anyone is really getting rich from it.

As for FAKKU, what exactly has the company given back to people? Jacob has been making a name for himself for years by hosting other people's work and monetizing it for his own gains. What did the fans get in return? He now scouts the more prolific scanslators, so the fan community loses translators. I can support JP authors by buying their books straight from Japan, most of the time it works out to be cheaper too. Uncensored is about the only benefit, but what happened is too high of a price for it, if you ask me.

Regarding scanslators that went to work for FAKKU, if they're professional, they'll stop doing their own releases. Then again, FAKKU has been anything but professional. Kept hosting scans for well over a year after turning into a legit publisher, they still host scanlators, not to mention one of their main translators worked on a book that was almost certainly going to get licensed (and it did). Funny enough, when their work gets pirated, we're now suppose to care. I mean it's kinda amazing the mental gymnastics Jacob is pulling to convince people that buying FAKKU releases is the only way to go forward, yet before the Wani deal it was totally OK to pirate the stuff (and for about a year afterwards).

Daiz is an egomaniac, on 4chan turns threads into FAKKU shilling, on IRC he tells people the same fucking story about his dreams and aspirations of working in legit anime distro. And Jacob thinks of himself as Jesus of Hentai, before he came there were dark days, but now everything is so much better, or at least that's what he wants people to believe, if you read the interviews. Constantly talks about simulpublishing, yet we all know, he churns out the magazine out during the course of a month, sometimes even that incomplete.

So do I begrudge people wanting to make money? No, not at all. Do I resent people going to work at FAKKU given their practices? Yeah, I kinda do actually.

P.S: I wonder what bothers soliloquy and hihohahi~

Edit: since Jacob has been tripping on IRC being all paranoid as usual, how dare I speak against one of his employees and I should direct it at him. I think took some care, to show that my main grudge lies with FAKKU as a company, I don't really bear much ill will toward 5am, as I don't know what personal circumstances made him took the job and I don't want to be too harsh on the guy.
