The better an artist is in B&W the worse their art looks in color. When you switch to color you almost always lose the subtle changes in line thickness/thinness and darkness/lightness that can give B&W art so much character. Depending on the color printing method you choose, a lot of color printing makes you lose subtle tone gradation. Plus a lot of comic artists are really bad at coloring or have really bad colorists. It's not just manga - look at the sketch art / storyboard art pre-inking and coloring in Western comic books and you'll find their B&W art is soooo much better.
