WTF? Black-haired dude (Kazuto) is not the MC and he's not the girl's (Maki) boyfriend. In fact, the "jerk friend", as you call him (Taichi), specifically tells Kazuto to stop being wishy-washy and confess or Maki will get stolen (pg 8). Which is exactly what happens. Maki even willingly calls Taichi up to the roof at the end because she asked Kazuto to clarify their relationship and he said, "we're friends, right?", leaving her emotionally hurt.

Sure, Taichi is an ass for forcing himself on Maki at first, but I'm not feeling sorry for NTR'd Kazuto at all. You don't dare to make a move, you don't get the girl, simple as that.
