----------------------------------

Taking a break from translations so having fun with coloring now. Actually, not fun at all. I finally understand how agonizing fan coloring is. It is utterly horrible. The result is great but the process is a torture.

Any suggestions or choices for the hair color? If not, I'll just go with #2.

I didn't like Lolibes's decensorship by the way, that's why I did it myself. Its huge logo was always in the way.

Also, this is my first time coloring anything. I can't really do vector so... yeah...
If you haven't noticed, I like realistic colors. Nothing over the top.

So far, 90+ hours in? The first 2 hours were great. The remaining 88 were quite painful.

I'm not going to update this often. As painful as it is, I want to take my time and color in the details.

Edit #1: Rating of 3.75? Hmm, it's lower than I predicted. Anything I can do to improve the experience? Or are you guys just as unpredictable and inconsistent as you ever were?

Edit #2: If you're wondering why I leave in an don't redraw the author's shadowing, there are many reasons. The first and most important reason is I believe that taking the shadowing away will remove too much of the original work. When I'm coloring, I'm honoring and respecting the author's work. Unless the art is really bad, I won't touch anything the author has done. No, I don't want to make it like anime cel shading style. That doesn't fit Yuzuki's art style. And if you want the complete perfect coloring, go ahead and watch the hentai. There are a few of them out there from Yuzuki's work. I'm here to color and only color. The second reason obviously is doing the line art will take too long.

Quality works; cheers for your efforts.

That being said, as for the hair, I would prefer the current colour of #2 since that feels the most natural. Might be the minority here, but I don't really like pink hair. :(

I feel that #3 is the worst among them by the way; its way too thick and feels too forced in my opinion.

i understand alot of work goes into the coloring, but there are very few people who like colored works, infact here is something i did when i was so pissed off the only english version was the colored monstrosity

https://e-hentai.org/g/802845/6b7bf6ddda/
https://e-hentai.org/g/802454/dd7787b136/

my edit to the no color version was 2 days late, but has a higher rating, more ratings, double the favorites, and more torrent downloads.

the major problem with colors is almost everytime they use the multiply layer, which is ends up looking horrible to most people.
if you want to color, what you need to do is learn a little bit about how colors work, how shadows work and use the grey as a guide for coloring in darker areas, as for this taking you 90 hours... there is no way this kind of coloring should have taken you 90 hours.

as for the decensor, you did a lot better by them, its clear whoever did the redraws on their copy didn't know how to to redraw for shit.

now, for a first effort in coloring, this is honestly better than most.
you want some tips going forward?
make a color palette, and keep going back to it to lay in new colors.
just in case you are doing something stupid, work on a separate layer for every color, this way you aren't dealing with needing to stay in the lines.
block the color the fuck in, new layer for every color means you dont need to stay in the lines, its easier to erase a color that goes to far than it is to constantly color inside the line.
there should be a selection tool that you can click point by point and have it erase large areas, do that for erasing outside of the large areas, im assuming you dont have a tablet, otherwise erasing with the tablet makes it allot easier.

outside of that, if you want to color again, i suggest going to some art forums and trying to pick up some tips on coloring comics without using multiply layers, i dont think you need full blown color theory but it would help.

also, if you dont have one i suggest a monoprice tablet, 40-70$ and worth it if you do any kind of work in photoshop, so much better than useing a mouse in that program for almost anything when you are directly manipulating the image.

Yay! Another one who shares my vision! Yeah, I think #3 is the worst one too but someone actually voted for it on the forums so I left it on here. It took me a while to get the pleasing feeling #2 gives off. Not too bright nor dark, but feels just right and pleasing to the eyes. But since this is a manga, having abnormal hair colors is the tradition, haha.

@eqalidan
Hmm, interesting. I thought people like color in general. Guess I'm mistaken. Oh and I'm desperately in need of tips. I bet you already know that I'm abusing a mouse like a loser.
I'm using linear burn for lighter colors and multiply for darker ones. All colors are on their own layers. I do want to find a way to not use a type of multiply layer though. Either way, it's way too time consuming without a tablet. Thanks for the tips, man. Appreciate it.

@knsou
Oh yeah, changing the hair color is easy. Why brown though? Since the story mentioned her dying her hair color, I assumed her original hair color is similar to her brother's. Which means her new hair color is most likely not brown. But I'll take note of this.

It looks great so far and I can see the hours put in easily. For hair you must use the red-ish brown as it would be the best suited for the work. Also use the same color for the brother as he is her brother so it's extremely likely they'd have the same or incredibly similar hair color. Blonde is very unnatural for japanese unless dyed and that typically runs alongside with gyaru which she is very much not. A shade of brown is far more likely and that makes sense. Coloring is a fucking bitch it really is and few people do it and I know this very well as I am one of the few who color. I myself have put over 30 hours easy into several pages. Ignore any stupid fucking dumbshits that say that there is no way you spent so much time or just use paint bucket or similar bullshit from mouths of an idiots whining about free shit/not knowing anything about it. As for asking for colors, the comments here on this site is a crap place for it (not the comment on here but as in general comments section ain't great) better on forum or finding people on similar note and asking for opinions PAST simple cause I like it.
Looks good keep it up and hopefully we'll see a finished product whenever you got the time.

I also understand exactly why you only chose specific parts you like to color because it's just too painful to do the rest. Didn't think we'd meet because this though, haha. I have high respect for you.

And about the hair color, the story actually mentions that she dyed her hair to fit with her green eyes. Hence, I used a bright blonde color.

To chip in my two cents, the main problem with works that are coloured in, is that the colours are often really dull- something which unfortunately also applies here, and that second, they carry over the tones from the original B/W, which simply weren't meant for colour and adds to that effect. With that in mind, if you are looking on something to further work on as for your colouring, I'd look into lighting effects foremost.

Also, the problem with colour vs. B/W in general is that colour tends to have a higher floor/ceiling in terms of quality than B/W. To explain, B/W looks so much cleaner than colour and just because of that, can get away with much more in terms of lower quality. Colour, on the other hand, tends to have that uncanny valley effect where if it's not good, it's simply bad, and its lackings much more visible and apparent. Of course, if both were top-notch, most people would probably prefer the colour version instead, but the problem is that it's difficult to get to that point.

EDIT: By the way, for her hair colour, I also agree with Victor DoUrden that it was likely actually meant to be a shade of light brown, but alas.

Really awesome so far. Looking forward to when you finish it.

Recent : I visit here after work to see if there are any new or interesting Doujin's/Manga's that may have popped up. Whenever i see any colored works by others i drop in to give props to them because i can relate to how horrendously tedious these are to do.

I usually don't critique people on their work because i think they've already did a terrific job, especially when they've invested so much time already which can't be complimented enough as is. There are people who are openly about these things and throw them out already which is perfectly fine so i tend to stay away from that department. If you would like though and don't mind me making a friendly suggestion, take a look at Page 9(008.png) the background color(nothing wrong with it at all)chosen against the skin tone can detract away from the main characters at times so try and look for any small details you can do to pull the viewer back on towards them, may it be sweat beads, saliva, breathe patterns etc more time would have to be put in but imo the payoff is worth it. Also great to see you're experimenting/testing with different color palettes.

Great job again and looking forward to when you finish it.

Time isn't a concern so far. I'll grit my teeth and finish it no matter how long it takes me. As long as the quality reaches my own standard for a first time coloring project, it should be fine. But an estimate would be another 70 hours if I don't make any stupid mistakes. Maybe even more time if I want to make the rest of the pages look like this link.

When choosing colors you can take into account a few compositional ideas. There are some colors that can be categorized into "warm" , "cool" or "neutral". Each of those three contrasts with the others. You can probably figure out how a color is categorized with your own intuition. Anyway to create a composition figure out what are the focal points in the panel, and give them color accents the contrast with the majority of the panel. For example: The girl's eyes are not only visually focal points but also narratively, so spending extra time rendering them and making sure the color contrasts with the rest of the panel is important. You may slightly desaturate all the other colors especialy background colors to draw more focus to the eyes, or whatever the focal points are. In each panel figure out how you can draw the viewer's attention to the important points and subdue the unimportant details. Start by desaturating the backgrounds (to varying degrees), experiment with using just 2-4 hues (colors) in each panel ( with varying shades and tints ). Reserve an accent color for extreme focal points, the less of it used the more it stands out. Composition can be complex but those are a few leads to start your experimentation.

Thinking about it makes me want to see your final work more so and possibly go the extra mile myself on the pictures that I really really like to maybe some day Shilu's level.
Though on another note I personally suspect that darkening the white areas between panels makes it look better as it helps emphasize the coloring more.

Of course, but I just haven't started coloring the remaining pages yet.
I was trying to improve all the pages shown here with new shading techniques I learned and all.
If you look back on the older uploaded versions, you'll see simple 2 color cel shading that doesn't make the characters feel alive.

I want quality over quantity so it'll take some time, but I'll surely color all of this manga.
As of now, all 12 shown pages are pretty much finalized. I'll probably make a few changes and improvements here and there but they are done for the most part.
I'm going to be focus my time doing the rest of the 9 pages.
