For those who`re bummed out about the ending-

Its called open ending. Sendai might still be out there fighting, and just doesn´t respond- perhaps she´s about to leap onto that Wo-class with a torpedo barrage. Authors do this to set up a possible sequel whilst leaving it in the dark if there will be one.
