This is actually what can actually happen to people his rejection was a stresser that caused him to have a physiological break. He couldnt have the one thing he wanted and cared most about in the whole world. He killed Ian. If her couldnt have him no one could as well as how he instantly betrayed him for his confession. I would also bet that he killed himself because of grief combined with the fact he cant live without him, his whole world. Classic revenge murder suicide.

Actually, I want to point out that Ian's bonds are now missing, likely implying freedom. It earlier shown a wrist cutting scene, so it can be assumed he cut deep in his grief as a form of mere self punishment with the last image. The clicking was possibly the bonds being removed from Ian.
