This actually looks like it could work as a species (ignoring the bit about how it uses humans to reproduce- lets just slot that out for some small morsel sized male, which is fairly common in the animal kingdom).

The inner living area would be like a kangaroo's pouch basically, just with an extra set of eyes inside to watch the kid. With kids that fragile looking, it makes sense for them to do it too. And heck, having the husbands 'milk' kind of makes sense too (kid is too young to properly digest things- it is like the porn version of birds that feed chicks half digested food)

Best monster wife ever. The actual manga was very nice, but the Yonkoma bonuses were really cute and quite interesting themselves too.

@Newprimus: that would explain how the guy eventually sees (lets assume the lights take a while to turn on, and go unused without a mate).

But yes, in an actual species, that would be too much trouble. Much easier to just go with touch and scent/taste, and he would have sensory deprivation where sight is concerned. Which would provide a new set of fetishes for this work, but that would make it hard to draw (complete darkness and all).

I could also say something about infrared to detect body heat... but they are inside her body. Even if the human mate and the squishy kid (who lacks an insulating shell) release relatively high degree of body heat, biology tells me she would be rather hot inside. It is a weird thing- even cold blooded creatures are warm if they are big enough. This is because even cold blooded body chemistry generates small amounts of heat by accident, and that is a lot of meat to do that with. Also, the large body mass would insulate this accidental body heat. That is why some scientists think that even if dinosaurs were cold blooded, the big ones would still be too big to be cold. So...yeah, infrared is not an option.
