The name of the book is a reference to small creatures, the Hattifatteners (Hattivatti in Finnish), from the Moomin series by Tove Jansson. They resemble worn white socks with short tentacles. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Moomin_characters#Other_characters

Well thanks for the info. I was realy wondering were the title came from. It realy didn't make sens to me why it wasn't something like Eila*Nipa instead.
From the description I suppose it's shapes we see on the background in page 8 and 20.
