I think you're looking at this from the wrong angle. Cheating IS the whole point of this setup, and hiroto nothing much than the spice to make it happen. Ai is a shell of a character, barely more than a switch between "i am embarassed" and "i love sex", and driving her to the melting point is the salt of it. Hiroto just springs up at the end of the chapter as usual, making his same old guilt trip to remind her that cheating is bad thus reverting her in her embarassed state of mind. Making him the boyfriend doesn't even have meaning beyond making a line between official and Ai just having brainless sex with the manager ; remove him and you have nothing keeping the story on edge.
If anything you should relate to the manager ; look at this magnificent bastard, acting all smug and smart, playing Ai like a violin. He's a perfect description of male dom 101, not controlled by his urges, not pushed by his circumstances (sexless marriage but it's not mentioned loveless). Wouldn't you like to have the complete upper hand in a situation like this ?
