@faglordxxx - There are numerous font packages put out on the internet for manga editors; if you have not done so, you should retrieve and install these to have some excellent choices to pick from. You will see many common and familiar used fonts in these packs.

The form of text input that GIMP uses currently, does require practice to use correctly. When you have learned how to align text well and gotten more used to it, your editing will improve greatly - I notice you do not make the common mistake of clearing text without matching the background level, which shows you do care more than many editors do.

If EN is not your first language, proofreading should be a neccesary step for translating into EN, I feel. There should be no shortage of parties willing to help you with that step.

My own request would be to not leave untranslated text in bubbles. Different translators have different mindsets about translating vocals and sound effects, but either/or, it always looks awkward to have JP text sitting alongside EN text inside of them, when it is avoidable.

[edit]: Re GIMP. I assumed it was your choice of software, so did not condescend to recommend a different one, my apologies. FTR, GIMP is a fine editor in nearly all respects. Its text handling is fully capable. It is just the current procedure for placement is... well, you have experienced it. Needlessly Complex.

BTW: A "trick" to vertical text in such cases, is to play with adjusting the letter and line spacing, if that is of aid to you. Some editors also space it out horizontally, but across several lines, instead. You will find what works for you.

Well GIMP isn't exactly the best tool for this; you can certainly compensate for where the software is lacking, but using a proper tool sounds brighter to me.
And well, due to my inability to input text vertically without doing so letter by letter, I gave up translating some parts which are mostly moans, groans and muffled gagging sounds.

Fixed most; using a continuous tense for the tentacle part sure looks better.
I kept the elliptic structure for Pache's line in p.4 since it's closer to the original text - and I couldn't cram long words like "incredible" or even "pleasure" in that speech bubble p19 so I kept that part as is.

No biggie for the misreading, it's just that I found the fact it made it into a tag stayed wrong for so long a bit weird.

GIMP is pretty powerful and, IMHO, more than enough for this kind of editing. Maybe not the best (as in, there are tools that can make the job in an easier manner), but it surely is powerful enough to allow some pretty good results.
Give a quick look on how to level the images, in order to prevent completely white squares over not so white bubbles (go to Colors->Levels). The usage is pretty simple and sometimes, even using the "auto" option give you a good improvement, but it's always good to have at least minor knowledge on how to do it manually.
About typesetting. Go to dafonts.com and search for new fonts. GIMP uses all the fonts available in the "Fonts" folder from your system (considering Windows, it goes to "C:WindowsFonts".
Also, text layers can be edited like any other layer so you can scale (ctrl+t), rotate (ctrl+r), move (ctrl+m), change it's opacity (on the layers window), and such, you just have to select the layer in the layers window before using the shortcuts, or else it'll write instead of change tools. Use these to your advantage (for instance, sometimes you may consider rotating the text and letting it in a diagonal position, like in page 6, panel 5). And don't forget the text tool editing capabilities too, which include vertical and horizontal spacing, kerning, partial font change (you can change the font of any portion of a given text inside the text layer without having to create another layer), justification, etc.

I, myself, use GIMP. AFAIK, MumeiTL also uses GIMP. I don't know who else uses GIMP and I know I'm not a great editor, typesetter nor translator but you can take a look in what I've released to get some ideas.

Oh, forgot about two things that also helps when dealing with small bubbles or vertical bubbles. Either search for synonyms (thesaurus are your friend here) or separate the words in different lines, trying not to break it more than once. Also, if you go for breaking, check a dictionary to see where you can actually break the word. For instance, don't break "window" like "wi-ndow", but like "win-dow". Most words have pretty obvious breaking points, others aren't so obvious, but it's always useful to check a dictionary when in doubt or when dealing with a word that you're not so familiar with.
And lastly, sometimes just making the font smaller works the best.
