I'm assuming the MC thought the maid didn't want to "serve" him and thought when she looked at him, she was letting it be known, but in reality, she just couldn't see that well and likely likes him as well.

These comments are hilarious. How have you people not read this already, it's been out for ages. And as far as convoluted plot... there isn't one. It's not the most straight-forward ever, but it's not difficult to understand either. A great work, and it's nice to see it getting decensored.
