It seems that it was only rape in the beginning. The victim eventually became much more accepting after she realized the creature was not going to tear her apart or give her a lot of pain in captivity. So, this is a variation of the beauty and the beast story. It's interesting how the author tried to use a bit of cinematographic lighting in the final two story pages. I wish more authors would try things like that instead of the "everything is totally evenly lit by flat pancake lights" style of drawing.
