Wow. I don't think I've lost a boner faster than when I read this. This story is totally heart-breaking, even if a bit cheesy in the beginning. The only sex here involves the mermaid and the main male character's brothers raping her and even then it's not that great. The story is basically a mute mermaid gets nursed back to health by the main guy, they end up living together with implied love. The guy's brothers end up hurt in a war, go to the main character for the mermaid's flesh, he gives up his body parts instead and the brothers proceed to fuck the mermaid so it'll cry pearls. The last and eldest brother asks for the life of the mermaid and since the brother, already deaf and blind now, can't offer something of equal value refuses. He gets killed by the older brother and the mermaid, furious at his murder, summons a tsunami to destroy the country. The end; a bad ending for a bad story, that's trying to pass itself off as a parable. Don't read this unless you wanna feel bad after. Or if you're into semi-cuckolding.

I get what all the comments above say but I think that while it does have a sad ending, the love between them was quite hart worming. this if anything is less of a story and more of folklore but it is an amazing piece of art in my opinion.

Dowman Sayman is somewhat into folklore (there are few translated stories here, on e-h), this stuff is more like a fable than a parable. Also, not being able to fap to something doesn't automatically make it bad, professor!
