Ooooh. I get the symbolism. For those of you who're confused by the guy here being a kid, it's supposed to be implying this. He never got a chance to know his mom when she was alive, so moth-mom in her human form with him as a kid is meant to imply that this is the sort of thing he wished he had been able to do with her.

He's not dead, just asleep, and she's holding him like that because it's something they had never been able to do before this.

My general guess as to her supernatural powers are that she's a Shinigami or some type of spirit, implied by the Black butterfly that is her soul, after years and years of prayer and watching him come to her grave, I suppose she had lingering regrets that refused to go away. As the Black Butterfly represents her soul, she became a Butterfly woman to represent her new identity. Reason why she doesn't tell him outright that she's his mother, probably because she doesn't want to fuck him up mentally with the knowledge that he's boning his moms dead soul. He states he never knew her in life, and that his mother in her butterfly form reminds him of his mother. No idea why he doesn't make the connection, my guess there is as good as yours. He might just believe People Die when they're Killed, so he never entertains the idea that he's boning his moms soul.
@Domnkou. I would say yes and no. I'd argue that the black butterfly as a shinigami or a soul is meant to represent to the audience that it is the medium in which his mother is channeled. It's clearly his mom, she all but hints that she is, and that scene at the end is completely telling that the moth-mom and his real mom are the same person. But the butterfly itself is merely the medium through which her soul is channeled. Possibly it's a sort of spirit invoking thing, where the mom's soul takes on the traits of the medium through which her soul is made manifest.

If it wasn't a butterfly, it could easily just be a spider or a wasp. But the author clearly wanted to go for a moth-girl incest story, so the black butterfly was the medium. At the end the mom's soul is separate from her medium, presumably when the guy wakes up, he'll find either her human self or the butterfly moth-mom when her time is up.

On the flip-side of this interpretion, he's clearly a child in that scene with the black butterfly near his mom. So you could just as easily state that it's symbolic, the black butterfly being his mom's real form and them having a semblance of a family relationship, I.E the one that they were never able to happen. Viewing each panel right by the other supports this argument, that they're simply a visual metaphor serving as an analogy for the relationship the guy and his mom were never able to have. He's still an adult and alive, she's still a moth-mom, that last panel just shows that in some way and form this is what their relationship is. A semi-unhealthy mother-son romance, but it's still the best he can hope to ask for in regards to being with his mother.

@Brazill. Then the moth analogy is perfect here, it works both symbolically and otherwise.
