I can see why Japanese products beat out Korean ones in regards to popularity. It's because Korean doujins and manga have horrible formats. Seriously I enjoy these yet at the same time I hate their formats.

Korean mahwa formats are fine. They're suppose to be read on a phone and scrolled down with no page breaks. The problem is when they're uploaded wrong.

These ones are webtoons meant to be read on phones, hence the format.The difference in popularity is probably due to quality of stories rather than format, Japanese have plenty of manga with great stories whereas the Korean ones have great eye candy/visuals but not much of a story to speak of, to the point most of Korean manga I've seen are utterly devoid of any consistent story that one can make any sense of, just random drama and great art.
